2016 SummerSongwriters Camp

CONCEPT: Ready to start writing music, or interested in improving or expanding your songwriting skills? In this two-week camp we’ll cover the basics of songwriting to advanced techniques to find your voice and style as a songwriter. Each day in camp will include lesson time, writing practice, song sharing, and performance prep. The two-week program will conclude with a small concert where participants can perform their music for family and friends.

Topics covered include (but not limited to):
– Necessary elements/parts to a song
– How to choose the proper key for your songs
– How to write a chord progression
– Exploring new chord voicings
– Transposing to different keys
– Lyrical content and subjects
– Working with vocal melodies and harmonies
– Dealing with “writers block”
– Recording your songs and ideas
– Song break-down and analysis

CAMPERS: Camp is open to guitar players, piano/keyboard players, singers/lyricists. Participants should know that basics of their instruments and be able to play songs, but DO NOT need to have prior experience writing their own songs. Participants can come ready to write new songs, or complete or improve existing song ideas.
